Current World Big Family Projects

World Big Family is dedicated to helping children in remote areas of the world to optimize their potential by bridging the gap and making resources available to them that have been beyond their reach.

 In an effort to raise a brighter generation, we have specific programs that seek to provide resources for better education such as books, stationery, technical support projects, and emotional support.

Computer Programme

We donate used computers (desktops and laptops) to rural schools, which could potentially increase the pass rates and give these marginalized children a chance to make it.

Soccer Tournament

Zaka Soccer Tournament

Sports provide a fantastic opportunity to get communities together, to touch the hearts of many people irrespective of social status. In an attempt to raise awareness of the issues affecting schools in marginalized communities, A Big Family Inc. currently provides logistical and financial support to an annual soccer tournament in District of Zaka in the Masvingo Province of Zimbabwe.

Pen-Pal

The Pen Pal project is geared towards broadening the horizons of children across continents. This will be an opportunity for both parties to exchange cultures, curb curiosity and answer questions, and let children be children without the barriers of their social status. We have structured the Pen Pal Project to be both fun and educational. Correspondence will be conducted in a supervised class setting as part of the children’s writing skills. The kids are having fun!

Sports Equipment Drive

We at A BigFamily strongly feel, besides being essential in the development of a child, sport also plays an integral role in the lives of children when they become adults later on. Nelson Mandela once said, “Sport has the power to change the world… it has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. It speaks to youth in a language they understand. Sport can create hope where once there was only despair. It is more powerful than government in breaking down racial barriers”.
At A BigFamily, we are therefore working extremely hard to ensure that every child gets an opportunity to develop their sporting potentials to the fullest and also the opportunity to develop their social skills through sport, which helps in making them better and responsible citizens tomorrow. We organize sports tournaments and source sports uniforms which we then donate to these disadvantaged schools. Our target areas are the rural communities of Zimbabwe, where we strongly feel there is a greater need as compared to city schools.
We started with Zaka District in Masvingo Province. Our long term vision though, is for us to eventually encompass the whole of rural Zimbabwe once more resources become available. Currently, we run sports tournaments at Zonal and District level in the province. In 6 – 8 years from now we envision us running a National Gala that would bring together children from all of Zimbabwe’s provinces. This would not also give the children the opportunity to compete and mingle with each other as Zimbabweans, and not as people from Matabeleland, Manicaland, Mashonaland or Masvingo. This is very essential, for we aim at building a stronger and dynamic Zimbabwean society free from tribal barriers, a component that often hinders development in our country.
However, for this vision to be a reality, we require resources such as soccer shoes, soccer balls, netballs, sports uniforms and even training equipment such as bibs, cones, and soccer training manuals. We are therefore appealing to you for regular donations of these items. Some schools have absolutely nothing at all which makes the need for these much greater.
You may even feel free to partner with us in making this dream come true. We will be keeping you posted on our website as we strongly believe in updating our sponsors on the progress we are making and on where their equipment is going. Already, we have had lots of success stories, pictures and feedback through your assistance. With more help from you we can even achieve more. Instead of throwing away some of your kids gently used equipment why not make better use of it. They say, “One man’s waste is another man’s treasure”. This would also give your child an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of their counterparts in another continent.
